In an age where artificial intelligence is rapidly evolving into our daily lives and tools like ChatGPT become the first choice of humans for writing emails, researching topics, or making scripts.

However, due to overdependence on ChatGPT, humans are losing critical thinking abilities, according to the latest reports in an MIT study. The research of the MIT Lab has given some concerning reports on the use of ChatGPT these days.

MIT Reports on Humane Dependency on ChatGPT

According to the Time.com report, the MIT Lab has organized a group of 54 people aged between 18 and 39 years and asked them to write an essay on a certain topic. The MIT Lab suggested the first group use ChatGPT, the second group use Google Gemini AI, and the third group depend on their brain.

The results were shocking. The ChatGPT users lost their creative thinking, became too lazy to think for themselves, and almost all the people’s thinking ability was the same. They were dependent on the Generating and Cope Paste.

On the other side, the Gemini AI users were good. They used the AI at the same time they had creative ideas, which suggests the Gemini AI users were satisfied. The group without AI users was also good and had creative ideas and critical thinking.

Famed psychiatrist Dr. Zishan Khan, who specializes in the mental health of children and adolescents, stated that today’s kids and young people are becoming overly dependent on AI models like LLMs when they should instead be learning to rely on them less. Especially the kids, who need to develop their brains for critical thinking, due to the overdependence on AIs, can lose the self-thinking ability.

ChatGPT Increase Productivity But Decreases the Thinking Ability

Recent research on AI usage among people has revealed some startling results by the Harvard Study. They stated that while using AI bots can boost productivity, it also diminishes human thinking abilities, as people begin to rely less on critical thinking. When they encounter errors or problems, they immediately turn to ChatGPT for solutions, often resolving the issue without understanding how it was fixed—and without even attempting to solve it on their own

Which suggests people are ignoring their self-thinking ability, which causes problems for the next generation.

How Can We Preserve Our Ability to Think in the AI Age?

AI is still in its early stages, yet we are already beginning to lose our critical thinking abilities. Therefore, it is essential to stay aware of the advancements in AI and actively preserve our ability to think independently in this AI-driven age.

Dr. Anya Sharma, a cognitive expert, says in a report that the uncontrolled use of artificial intelligence like ChatGPT is the cause of losing critical and creative thinking ability.

Here we have some good practices to avoid losing the self-thinking abilities.

1. Make ChatGPT Helper Not the Part of Life

In today’s daily lifestyle, people are using ChatGPT like it is their individual body part. From writing emails and solving company problems to composing essays and tackling math questions, people use ChatGPT as if it’s an essential part of their lives rather than just a helpful tool.

2. Use ChatGPT in 4th Try

In today’s time, when people face problems, they directly go to ChatGPT and solve the query instead of trying at least three times by themselves, and when they don’t solve it, then they should ask ChatGPT to find the mistakes instead of finding solved answers.

You should always try to rely on your own thinking instead of becoming overly dependent on artificial intelligence.

3. ReThink the Generated Answers

If you can’t solve the problems that you have generated or solved by the ChatGPT, in this case, you should watch the process and rethink where you have made a mistake. Also have to spend a few times researching information generated by the AI tools. With this, you can regain the self-thinking skill.

Conclusion

Generative artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT are still in their early stages, yet they are becoming such an integral part of our lives that they are starting to harm people’s ability to think for themselves.

Not just this report, but many others also suggest that the indiscriminate use of ChatGPT can lead to problems for youngsters and future generations of children.

So we have to use ChatGPT and other similar AI tools in the fourth try; the first to third tries should be done by humans.
